We had a great time at our Beergarden social last Saturday afternoon, and Sunday’s all-day rehearsal was just fantastic. We are so pumped up for our concert this Saturday, July 13! The Singers and Big Band heard Genevieve Holmes and the orchestra perform the Grieg Piano Concerto for the first time Sunday, and you are missing out if you don’t come hear it. Our country swing and boogie medleys didn’t move anyone to tears, but you should see our conductor Daniel dance — I hope our audience can tell from his back what a good time he’s having conducting all the rock and pop he never thought he’d be dealing with as a professional musician! And the Big Band fresh off their last ballroom gig rocks the second half with a Blues Brothers tribute. You do know the Blues Brothers, right? It’s 106 miles to Chicago… hit it!

You are cordially invited to come clink glasses and break bread at the 2013 ESME Summer Social! We’ll kick off at 2pm on Saturday July 6 at the Augustiner Biergarten on Arnulfstraße, nestled between Hauptbahnhof and Hackerbrücke.

Two years ago we had a BBQ social on the Isar which turned out to be a really fun day and a good opportunity to get to know people from other ensembles – hopefully this will be the same! All those associated with ESME’s past, present and future are welcome, including +1s and anyone thinking of joining the team!

In the best of beer garden traditions, we’re encouraging everyone to bring along some food for sharing. Brezen, Obazda, Würste, potato & pasta salads, cheese and bread are all staples – but it’d be nice to reflect the ESME ethos with an international spread, both savoury and sweet! There is of course food available at the venue, so if you’re short of time to put something together then please don’t be put off! Your presence is the most important thing.

We’ll go ahead unless the weather is looking terrible – in which I’ll put an announcement here and send an email around by 9am on Saturday. I’ll provide some details nearer the time as to how we will all find each other there.

I hope lots of you can make it and am looking forward to seeing you all there.

*Please let us know if you are bringing a +1 (or more)* so I know how many tables to try and reserve.  If you have a Facebook account, please join our Facebook event (easier to count).
Yours,
Mark

The English-Speaking Music Ensembles e.V. (ESME) is searching for an enthusiastic choral conductor.

ESME has more than 110 members rehearsing and performing in an orchestra, choir, and big band. The person who steps up to this challenge will conduct a 40-member mixed-voice choir with a broad and eclectic repertoire, preparing for concerts at Gasteig, as well as a few smaller events through the year.

If you are looking for a new conducting challenge and believe you have what it takes, please contact our management team via email to conductor-search@esme-ev.de.

You can see our choir and members of our other ensembles in action at our upcoming concert, “Sounds from Underground” on May 5, 2013, 19:00 at the Einstein Kulturzentrum.
